Things You'll Need to Make Your Video

Windows XP or higher up to Windows 2007
Windows Movie Maker
PowerPoint presentation
Microphone with speaker

Convert your Slides to Images 

Before making your video, you have to convert the slides to images.  Open your PowerPoint presentation.  In the top navigation bar, click FILE menu and click Save As.  The Save As box will open.  In the Save As Type drop-down menu, select JPEG File Interchange Format and click Save. A selection box will open. Select the option Every Slide in this box. Now, all your slides have been converted to JPEG image format.

Remember the location where you are saving your images to avoid unnecessarily searching for the images at a later time
 



If you have an animated PPT, only the slides will be converted and the animation won't be converted to image format.  So, you won't be able to convert an animated slide using this method.



An animated PPT can be converted to movie using on-screen activity recording tools such as Camtasia, Camstudio, Captivate, and Jing.  Among these, Camstudio and Jing are free tools and each of them have their own pros and cons.


Windows Movie Maker  

This is a tool that comes with your Windows.  The earlier version of Windows Movie Maker had many advanced options, which made the life of a new user very difficult.  All these have been simplified in the Windows 2007 Movie Maker.

Convert Powerpoint to video for free
Open WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER from Start Windows.  On the left hand side, you will see the preview player and on the right a plain box.  In the top Navigation Menu, you will see many options.  The ones that you will need for making your movie are: Add Music – To add narration to your movie Title – To add title Credits – To add credits Animations – To add effects to your title and credits

Importing Your Slides to Movie Maker
 
In the Movie Maker, go to the right side box and click on the box.  In the next box, browse and go to the folder where you had saved your images.  Select all the images by clicking Control + A or your mouse and then click Open.  In the next Selection Box, Select the option Every Slide and click Ok.  All your slides will be imported to Windows Movie Maker.

Adding Your Narration

Before doing this, record the narration for your presentation and save the .wav or .mp3 file in a folder.  In Movie Maker, go to the top navigation menu and select Add Music.  Browse and go to the location where you have saved your narration and select it and click Open.  Your narration will be added to the slides.

Adding Title and Credits 

To make your video attractive, you can add title and credits to it.  Go to Top Navigation Menu – Title to add title or Top Navigation Menu – Credits. You can add attractive effects to the Title or Credits with the help of Animations.  

Preview the Movie

Preview your movie on the left side after making any changes to your movie and make necessary changes.

Making the Movie

If you would like to share your new movie on the web, go to FILE – Publish Movie menu.  Select one of the video sharing sites such as YouTube, Flickr, etc. in the submenu.  You need to create an account before sharing on these sites. You can also save the movie to your computer.  Go to FILE – Save Movie menu.  In the submenu Common Settings, select the option For Computer. You can also select other options and see their output.
